Gallery Assistant - Casual Position 

Hourly Rate: $25.37 per hour + casual loading 

Location: Tanks Arts Centre – Collins Avenue

Cairns Regional Council is now seeking energetic and enthusiastic individuals who have a strong attention to detail and high standards of presentation to join our Cultural Services team now!

As the Gallery Assistant your key responsibilities will include assisting the gallery team in the preparation and presentation of exhibitions at the Tanks Arts Centre and assisting the technical team to ensure that installations of artwork, launches and events run smoothly.

Manual skills are important, as you will be required to install and dismount displays from exhibitions, restore gallery walls, construct art sets / theatrical sets and props, frame and un-frame works on paper and use ladders, power tools and hand tools, on a regular basis.

 To be successful in this role you must have: - 

• A 'good eye' for design and spatial acuity
• Demonstrated experience in displaying visual art
• Experience undertaking manual tasks and experience in using hand tools
• Demonstrated reliability and a proactive approach to tasks
• The ability to teach simple tasks and supervise small teams of volunteers
• A positive and friendly disposition
• The ability to communicate with a broad range of people
• Demonstrate a high level of teamwork
