Live, work and play in one of the most spectacular parts of Australia and enjoy the lifestyle and benefits that come with it.
Here at Cairns Regional Council with our purpose to “serve the community”, we are committed to providing a sustainable liveable city that enhances our unique lifestyle and enriches our community and region. Our commitment to high quality services means that we need talented, committed people – we need you!
We are now seeking a highly motivated and suitably experienced After Hours Compliance Officer to join our team now.
Our After Hours Compliance Officers are the face of Council when responding to customer complaints outside normal office hours.
We are looking for a proactive team player who can think on their feet to provide excellent customer service when responding to and investigating issues such as wandering dogs, dog attacks, illegal camping.
You will have well-developed skills in talking to people from all walks of life and the ability to gather the evidence needed to issue fines or other penalties allowed under Council’s Local Laws and other legislation.
The roster for this position ensures Council can respond to complaints 24/7 and involves working nights and early mornings.
About the role:
Reporting to the Supervisor Animal Management, our After Hours Compliance Officers undertake proactive patrols of the region and respond to customer complaints.
Council’s Local Laws set out rules and regulations that ensure the safety and well-being of our community, as well as the potential penalties for breaching these laws. You will therefore be able to interpret our Local Laws and understand how they apply to specific circumstances.
The team mainly works with animal-related issues, including picking up wandering dogs, handling stock on roads, first response to dog attacks out of hours and caring for animals at Council’s pound and other animal related complaints. Great animal handling skills and confidence in managing aggressive pets are a must.
As any action Council undertakes in relation to breaches of our Local Laws must be backed by clear evidence, a background in investigations is desirable.
Where appropriate, Council takes an education approach to common Local Law complaints, so you will also need to be able to explain Council regulations and requirements the customer must follow in an easy to understand way.
If you enjoy a real challenge and have an interest in learning about the services and programs our Department provides to the community then don’t delay, apply now.
