Project Officer - Go Sport for Everyone - 6 Month Contract

For Cairns Regional Council the community is at the core of everything we do, and here in our Community Services team we want to grow, encourage and support active living and participation in sport for everyone. 

We are now seeking a passionate, dedicated and highly motived individual who has a genuine interest in people, sports, exercise and disability support activities to join our team now in this Project Officer position. 

Reporting to the Team Leader Community Services, the key focus of this role is to: 

  • Facilitate the delivery of the Go Sport for Everyone program on behalf of Council, which aims to increase the capacity of local sporting clubs and organisations to encourage, promote and accommodate the participation of people with disabilities.
  • Work with identified community groups and services to target people with disabilities to participate in the Go Sport for Everyone Program.
  • Work with sporting clubs, State Sporting Organisations (SSOs), equipment suppliers and specialist consultants to build the capacity of local sporting clubs to attract participants with disabilities.
  • Develop general awareness raising campaign to enable sporting clubs to identify and overcome potential barriers to participation faced by people with disabilities.
  • Develop, organise and promote accessible community ‘come and try’ days for people with disabilities.
  • Facilitate collation and administration of funding requirements, including reports and acquittals. 

To be considered for this role you must have: 

  • Qualification or demonstrated experience in a relevant field such as Leisure and Health, Disability Support or Sport and Exercise Science
  •  Experience in facilitation of community engagement.
  • “C” Class Drivers Licence.
  • Blue Card for Child Related Employment or ability to obtain.
  • Practical experience in managing a diverse range of events and the ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated planning and leadership skills with proven ability in setting priorities and monitoring workflow for multiple task/projects.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to interact positively with the general public, especially people with disabilities, and promote a positive image of Council.

Essential: Do you have a current and valid C Class Drivers' Licence or above?
Essential: Do you have eligibility / the right to work in Australia?
