Cairns Regional Council is currently seeking a Senior Asset Accountant to join our Finance Department. 

Primary Objective of the position:

  • Partnering with the business to implement Councils Asset Management Strategy through the integration and alignment of the Fixed Asset Register and Asset Management Plans (AMPs)
  • Coordinate Council's asset revaluation program including re-assessments of useful lives and accuracy of outcomes of comprehensive and index based revaluations
  • Delivery of timely financial reporting on the value of Council's property, plant and equipment
  • Preparation of robust forecasts for the revaluation and depreciation outcomes for Council's property, plant and equipment on a regular basis

 To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Certified Practising Accountant status (CPA Australia) or Chartered Accountant (ICA Australia) or significant progress toward certification
  • Experience in a relevant senior accounting/finance role within the commercial or government sector
  • Sound knowledge of financial administration legislation, accounting, auditing and financial management standards, practices and procedures and the ability to develop policies and assess financial ramification of proposals
  • Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills; well-developed interpersonal skills; and an ability to build relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders

Selection Criteria Essential: Do you have a Bachelor of Commerce / Business or similar?
Desirable: Are you studying towards, or eligibility and willingness to study, Certified Practising Accountant status (CPA Australia) or Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia)?
