Cairns Regional Council is currently seeking an Accountant to join our Finance Department.
Primary Objective of the position:
- Promote a “We are here to help” culture within the Finance Department.
- Work in conjunction with the Senior Tax & Treasury Accountant to fulfil the financial accounting requirements of both Council and external not-for-profit organisations including monthly and annual financial reporting, preparation of budget statements as well as administration of long term financial plans.
- Work in conjunction with the Treasury & Taxation unit to deliver Treasury, Taxation and Internal Review services to the whole of Council.
- Provide business services support to external not-for-profit organisations including preparation of monthly reports and budgets to the board and coordination of procurement and payroll processes.
- Provision of professional accounting advice and support relevant to all areas of Financial Accounting across all areas of Council.
To be successful in this role you must have:
- Bachelor of Commerce / Business or similar.
- Studying towards, or eligibility and willingness to study, Certified Practising Accountant status (CPA Australia) or Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia).
- Sound understanding of accounting systems, computer concepts and programs.
- High level numerical, analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to work within and adapt to different team environments.
