Testimonial:

After some time away from working in local government I have been, I believe, lucky enough to gain employment at Cairns Regional Council in the Martyn St Depot Store.  My background has predominantly been in  the field of warehousing/procurement/logistics in varied industries with my last Council role at Port Stephens Council in NSW.  When my family and I decided to return to Queensland to live I had to work in the private sector as jobs in the stores/procurement sections of local government were scarce.  When the position of Stores Officer at Cairns Regional Council came up I jumped at it and was grateful to be offered the job.

I have been with Cairns Regional Council for 5 weeks now and could not be happier.  I enjoy the structure that comes with working in Council where the safety of you and everyone at Council is actually taken seriously and not just talked about.  The well being of the staff is important as well, both physically and mentally and I go home most days reminding myself that I feel just as good as when I left home to go to work that day.  I am grateful for having a nine day fortnight because it not only gives me the day off but it also is an opportunity to get things done that you need to do during working hours.  I cannot fault the benefits of working at the Council with generous annual leave entitlements, sick leave, superannuation contributions, full uniform and any safety gear and tools required to get the job done.  The overall work environment where I work in the store has the right amount of staff to get the job done efficiently and professionally without putting stress on anyone.  I could not have asked for a better group of colleagues to work with, I felt welcome from the beginning and there was, and still is, total support from everyone while I learn the systems and procedures and Council stock and locations.  The customers of the store, being the rest of the Council, have also been incredibly supportive and always forthcoming in advice and information to help me learn.

If you are looking for a job where you are going to get back what you put in, and then some, then working in the Martyn St Depot Store is definitely the place to come.  If you want to learn, have a laugh and do an honest day’s work knowing you are contributing to how the Cairns Regional Council is serving the ratepayers, community and visitors in keeping the region safe, clean, beautiful and an overall great place to live and be proud of  I cannot recommend enough coming to Council, you will have the support of a whole team of people that want to help you succeed.
