Operations Manager

Situated in the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct, just 4km north of the city’s CBD, the Tanks Arts Centre is an iconic and innovative multi-use, contemporary arts facility housed in three converted World War II naval oil storage tanks, and set amidst a lush rainforest backdrop. The Tanks combines two main functions, that of a ‘presenter’ organisation offering a range of arts and cultural events and activities to a wide audience, and also as a community cultural development organisation which aims to proactively engage local communities in cultural expression and participation.
Reporting to the Manager Cultural Services, we are now seeking a highly energetic & experienced Operations Manager oversee and manage all people, systems, resources and processes related to operations of the Tanks Arts Centre, Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre and Cultural Services Events.
Key Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Effectively manage day-to-day business activity and resources of the Tanks Arts Centre, Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre, Cultural Services Residency facility, Cultural Services Festivals and Event activities and all Arts and Cultural related services.
- Oversee Operations of Tanks Event and Production teams delivering Cultural Services events at Munro Martin Parklands
- Oversee Technical Production Services
- Direct all venue operations Front Of House/Hospitality Services
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budgets for the Tanks Arts Centre, Festivals and Events
- Manage operations to ensure the highest possible standards of service, safety and presentation to the public, hirers, and participants at all times.
To be considered for this role you must have:
- An extensive background of venue management, performing arts & entertainment industry, major festivals and events ticketing, technical production, and hospitality/catering services
- Highly developed staff management and organisational systems planning and implementation skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage, coordinate and lead an effective team
- A demonstrated understanding of business imperatives and processes and demonstrated achievement of business success
- In-depth knowledge of event management software
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office software, particularly excel and word
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Mentoring skills to build a strong culture of succession planning within the organisation
- A demonstrated commitment to a high level of customer service
- A proven ability to work effectively as part of a team with a positive "whatever it takes" attitude
- A sound understanding of contemporary WH&S legislation and procedures
- Excellent communications and problem solving skills
