Salary Range: Level 6 - $82,180.86 - $87,476.83 per annum + 15% loading for working unusal hours

Opportunities like this are few a far between so don’t miss out on your chance to make your mark and raise the media profile for Cairns Regional Council.  We are now seeking a highly energetic, suitably qualified & experienced Media Coordinator to join our Marketing and Communications team now! 

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Manager this key strategic position will develop and maintain a positive media profile for Council by managing the relationship between Council and the media. You will also monitor and respond to media coverage and strategically plan and implement media campaigns as appropriate and seeking to continuously improve and develop methods of communicating with the public. 

The individual we are seeking will be a highly skilled professional who is a team player, proactive and thrives in a busy environment. You will need be able to work autonomously as well as in a team. 

Ideally, the successful applicant will have:- 

  • Tertiary qualifications in the disciplines of journalism, public relations or similar field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a daily newsroom or similar experience in a political environment.
  • Extensive news story portfolio or equivalent in a political or corporate public relations position.
  • Demonstrated strategic media thinking and the ability to develop and implement campaigns, combined with a strong understanding of crisis media management.
  • A thorough understanding of Local Government context and local issues.
  • The ability to relate well to the public, elected members, media, management and staff.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
