Position Summary

Local Disaster Coordinator

Salary Range: $92,386.93 - $97,812.88 per annum
Location: Woree Disaster Coordination Centre
Closing: Tuesday, 28th January 2020

Primary objectives of the position:

  • To manage Council’s Disaster Management response.
  • To provide direction and assistance to the Local Disaster Management Group - Cairns Region in carrying out objectives in accordance with the Disaster Management Act (Qld) 2003 ("the Disaster Management Act"), including disaster awareness, preparedness, response and recovery initiatives for natural and non-natural disasters.
  • Manage the review and maintenance of Council’s Disaster Management Plans, Sub-Plans, Operational Procedures, Registers and Emergency Coordination procedures in accordance with the Disaster Management Act.
  • To prepare Emergency Contingency Planning within Council.
  • To assist in conjunction with Finance Branch Council’s Natural Disaster Relief Recovery Assistance (NDRRA) claims.
  • Financial and administration coordination responsibilities for the twelve (12) State Emergency Services Groups and five (5) SES Depots.
  • Responsible for Unit reporting requirements to Council and external agencies.
  • To coordinate and plan Council’s approach to Queensland State Government's Flood Mitigation Policy.

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • Current “C” class driver’s licence.
  • Superior understanding and knowledge of Disaster Management principles and experience in Disaster Management operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing detailed interpretations on current legislation requirements and the implications such legislation has on local government, including legislation on disaster management.
  • Proven project management skills, including ability to manage several projects at once to completion.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills including demonstrated capacity for leadership, self‑management, decision-making and team building.

Selection Criteria Essential: Do you have a current and valid C Class Drivers' Licence or above?
Essential: Do you have superior understanding and knowledge of Disaster Management principles and experience in Disaster Management operations?
Essential: Do you have demonstrated experience in providing detailed interpretations on current legislation requirements and the implications such legislation has on local government, including legislation on disaster management?
Essential: Do you have the ability to provide senior management with high-level advice (both oral and written) on disaster management related issues?
