In this role you will enjoy undertaking a diverse range of tasks which will ensure that no two days are ever the same!

You will support the growth of the Cairns region by assessing Operational Works applications against the CairnsPlan, FNQROC Development Manual, Australian Standards and the relevant legislative framework. 

With a solid background in providing high level engineering advice, we are looking for a team player with a strong solution focus. We are looking for great customer services skills as you will be communicating with contractors, consultants, developments and the general public on a day to day basis.

Primary Objective of the position:

  • Apply sound technical knowledge and experience to competently assess, comment and report on development approvals and permit applications.
  • To implement and improve Council’s process for assessing Operational Works Applications having regard to the relevant legislative framework.
  • Ensure that statutory requirements in relation to the assessing and processing of Operational Works and Local Law development applications are complied with, and carried out as part of a team for the benefit of the Branch.
  • To ensure compliance with Development Approval Conditions and the relevant local and Australian Standards.
  • Ensure that all donated assets are handed over in a condition that complies with the standards set out in the Far North Queensland Regional Group of Councils Development Manual.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Possess Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised University or other tertiary education institution or equivalent (Level 5).
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of engineering standards and guidelines to assess and/or review sub divisional and engineering works.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge to competently undertake inspections of works under construction and at practical completion to ensure Council requirements are satisfied.
  • Ability to manage and organise own workload and work independently or in a team as required.
  • Have well developed Information Technology, verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with members of the public, Council Officers, and the development industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and resolve conflict in a timely and sensitive manner.
  • Demonstrated customer service work ethic.
