Salary: $52,208.03 per annum + regular overtime & penalty rates as applicable

The Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) will open its doors in December. Hosting an array of events and performances including plays, musical theatre, dance, comedy and contemporary and classical music performances. CPAC houses two venues, the main theatre with a seating capacity of 940 people and the studio with a seating capacity of 400. CPAC is a premier facility that will bring the precinct and the city to life and provide the people of Cairns with the finest performing arts experiences and a broad range of entertainment.

We now have an exciting opening for a Head of Staging & Systems Technician to join our team now!  In this role you will liaise with clients to coordinate staging and technical production requirements for all events at CPAC and our other venues across Cultural Services. 

Key duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Oversee and lead all staging and stage related mechanical systems including fly system and activities.
  • Ensure that technical production requirements and associated documentation are developed and maintained to a high standard.
  • Operate staging equipment and flying system for events when required.
  • Supervise casual technical staff during bump in, performance bump out and maintenance periods.
  • Advise clients in the construction theatrical sets and properties. Lead the construction of sets in the venue ensuring set is safe and compliant with all regulations. 

To be considered for this role you must have:  

  • Current Queensland Drivers Licence
  • Intermediate Rigger’s Certification
  • Extensive experience working at a multi stage arts centre or for a production or theatre company.
  • A high level of operational competency in technical theatre, specialising in staging and mechanics.
  • Operational competency in technical theatre, including operating lighting audio and audio visual equipment.
  • A sound understanding of production requirements of the performing arts and entertainment industry and a demonstrated flair for creative production designs in staging.
  • A sound understanding of relevant workplace health and safety codes and standards related to the theatrical industry.

Selection Criteria Essential: Do you have a current and valid C Class Drivers' Licence or above?

Essential: Do you have a minimum of five years’ experience working at a multi stage arts centre or for a production or theatre company?
