Salary Range: $76,355.88 - $79,532.89 per annum + super

About the role
This position is responsible for the planning and facilitation of community development initiatives, programs and events across a diverse regional area which engages with First Peoples communities and service providers. The position works closely with internal and external stakeholders.
The primary objectives of the position is to:
- Establish processes which support and enhance the First Peoples participation and promote Council’s engagement with First People communities.
- Provide information and opportunities to raise awareness of First People within the Cairns Region.
- Promote and further facilitate respect, trust and positive relationships between Cairns Regional Council and First Peoples Communities.
- Identify and deliver capacity building programs to benefit First People and service providers in line with the Corporate and Community Development Strategic Plans.
- Provide planning and advice to support policy on issues affecting First People to Council, Government, community agencies and groups.
To be eligible for this position you must have the following:-
- Current Drivers Licence
- Appropriate degree and/or relevant experience in community development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and connection to, First Peoples Communities.
- Demonstrated experience in working with Indigenous Australians and communities together with a high level of understanding of contemporary issues affecting Indigenous Australians.
- Community development experience and understanding of community development principles.
