The Cairns Botanic Gardens, renowned for having one of the best exhibitions of tropical plants in Australia, is a tropical paradise where you can explore the beauty of tropical plants, relax in stunning surroundings and learn about tropical flora and horticulture.  

We now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Nursery Team Member to join us now.   

The primary function of this role is to maintain and manage the Cairns Botanic Gardens potted collection and display houses to an industry standard appropriate to a high profile Botanic Garden.  

General duties & responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: Collect seed and maintain seed bank collection point for species delivered through the nurseries, plant propagation, plant identification, operating irrigation systems, pest & disease management, pruning plants / trees, spraying, maintaining plant records register and labels, general labouring, weeding & trimming.  

To be considered for this role you must have:- 

  • Minimum Certificate III in Horticulture or related discipline
  • Current MR Class Drivers Licence
  • White Card (General Safety Construction Induction)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in plant propagation, pest and disease management, tree pruning and horticultural and agricultural chemical application relating to the nursery trade
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the production and maintenance of tropical plants
  • High degree of skill relating to identification, lifecycle and habitat of tropical plants

Essential: Do you have a current and valid General Construction Safety White Card?
Essential: Do you have a Certificate III in Horticulture or related discipline?
Desirable: Do you have a current and valid Agricultural Chemical Distribution (ACDC) Certificate?
Essential: Do you have previous experience in the nursery trade?
