Cairns Regional Council is currently seeking a Senior Engineer Planning to join our Water & Resource Recovery Department. 

Primary Objective of the position:

  • To be responsible for, under the direction of the Principal Engineer – Strategy & Planning, the strategic direction for the upgrade of existing infrastructure as well as new infrastructure to meet existing and future levels of service for water, recycled water and wastewater. 
  • This includes planning safe and reliable drinking water sources, planning efficient water supply and sewerage systems and providing services for internal customers, including input into the Capital Works Program, Council’s Local Government Infrastructure Plan and relevant Asset Management Plans.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or other relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in infrastructure network planning relevant to the Australian water industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills within a utility organisation, including high level skills in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, process improvement and asset performance. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic infrastructure plans, incorporating appropriate asset management strategies, to support adopted service delivery targets.
  • Demonstrated ability using effective negotiation skills with dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
