Curator Botanic Areas

Salary Range: $84,243.60 - $89,672.50 per annum
Location: Botanic Visitor Centre
Closing: Monday 14th October 2019

Primary objectives of the position:

  • Strategic management of botanical collections within the Council’s Botanic Areas to ensure they are relevant to Collection policy.
  • Ensure presentation of Botanic areas meets the highest level of horticultural standards –world-class facility.
  • To drive a strategic approach to maintenance across Botanic Areas by developing initiatives that promote a more consistent standard of service and using methods that are based on industry best practice.
  • Ensure quality control of Botanic Areas’ operations by leading, providing technical advice, monitoring, supervising, programming and coordinating field works.
  • Develop the potential of staff to achieve high levels of industry standards, specifications, training, knowledge and technical expertise.
  • Provide an outstanding level of customer service to internal and external customers in accordance with the service standards set by Cairns Works.

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Botany/Horticulture
  • Current Queensland C Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Highly developed skills and proven success in the management of Botanical Gardens and the Operations of such a facility.
  • Highly developed skills and proven success in Garden Design Horticultural practices in Tropical Gardens.
  • Highly developed organisational and decision making skills including a demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate a multitude of diverse and complex tasks and projects.
  • Highly developed knowledge of tropical flora taxonomy, pest, disease and weed management practises specifically related to the Cairns Botanic Areas.
