Infrastructure Planning Technical Officer WS3187

Salary: $65,245.44 – $81,529.17 per annum
Location: Administration Building, 119 – 145 Spence Street, Cairns

Primary Objectives of the position:-

  • Assist the Senior Infrastructure Planning Technical Officer to manage and deal with requests, investigations, enquiries and other minor works required in relation to Council’s infrastructure.
  • Undertake site inspections and produce recommendations regarding the maintenance and upgrade of Councils infrastructure, in particular reviewing stormwater drainage requirements, traffic control, parking arrangements, safety around schools and access for people with disabilities.
  • Provide timely, consistent and accurate responses to residents and other stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you must have:- 

  • Current Queensland Driver’s Licence (Class C).
  • Tertiary qualifications relating to the position (e.g. Certificate IV Civil Construction, Associate Diploma Civil Engineering) OR extensive relevant experience.
  • Experience in the design, delivery or maintenance of civil engineering related assets, such as stormwater drainage, coastal protection and roads, preferably in a Local Government environment.
  • Good level of oral and written communication skills, possessing an ability to deal with confronting situations and negotiating acceptable outcomes with limited supervision.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant State Government Legislation, Australian Standards, technical manuals / guidelines, FNQROC Development Manual, MUTCD and appropriate Austroads publications is desirable.
  • A good understanding of computer software particularly MSExcel & MSWord.  It would also be of benefit to have an appreciation of Council’s works ordering / accounting, Customer Response Management and GIS Mapping systems.
