Project Officer -  Public Art Program - Casual Position

Casual Hourly Rate: $38.82 - $41.37 per hour + casual loading
Location: Tanks Arts Centre, Collins Avenue - Cairns

Public art in the Cairns region reflects the unique character and lifestyle of the region. Cultural Services is responsible for the management and maintenance of Council’s extensive public art collection, as well as the acquisition and commission of new works, as underpinned by Council's corporate objectives that seek to build Cairns’ reputation as a vibrant and contemporary public art city.

We are now seeking a highly engaged and experienced Project Officer to work on our Public Art Program.  

The key objective of this position is to: 

  • Commission new works as identified in the Public Art Strategy
  • Schedule and document maintenance of existing works
  • Support the delivery of projects and events in the Public Program 

Duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Liaising with stakeholders
  • Writing project briefs and progress reports
  • Facilitating briefings
  • Sourcing the artists and creative teams
  • Contract administration and supervision of the construction, installation or procurement of the artwork
  • Documentation and evaluation
  • Schedule, commission and document the maintenance of existing artworks in the public art collection
  • Assist in the delivery of projects and events in the Public Program of the Strategy 

To be successful in this role you will require: 

  • Bachelor of Business, Commerce or Management and/or extensive experience in project management
  • Experience and/or understanding of the processes involved in commissioning, producing and maintaining public artworks
  • Experience in project administration and management
  • Experience in writing business documents (e.g. reports, memos, business case)
  • Demonstrated experience in achieving project outcomes
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills
  • High level of computer literacy

Selection Criteria Essential: Do you have a Bachelor of Business, Commerce or Management and/or extensive experience in project management?
