General duties & responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: maintaining the Botanic Gardens potted collection and display houses, seed collection, plant propagation, plant identification, operating irrigation systems, pest & disease management, tree pruning, spraying, weeding & trimming.

To be successful in this role you must have:-

Essential:

Qualifications

  • Certificate III minimum in Horticulture or related discipline commensurate with the position.
  • Current MR Class drivers licence
  • White Card (General Safety Construction).

Knowledge, Skills & Expertise

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the production and maintenance of tropical plants.
  • High degree of skill relating to identification, lifecycle and habitat of tropical plants.
  • Experience with automated irrigation systems and horticultural machinery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and practical experience in plant propagation, pest and disease management, tree pruning and horticultural and agricultural chemical application relating to the nursery trade.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Environmental Issues relevant to Landscape and Horticultural Maintenance Activities.

People Oriented Skills & Attributes

  • Demonstrated effective skills in team building with an emphasis on open communications.
  • Highly motivated and able to work unsupervised at times.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop sound, professional and responsive working relationships specifically in the areas of dealing with the public and an emphasis on providing quality customer service.

In addition to the above requirements the following licence / experience are highly desirable:-

Qualifications

  • Current ACDC licence or ability to obtain.

Knowledge, Skills & Expertise

  • Knowledge and understanding of formative pruning concepts for landscape trees.
  • Contract Management experience relevant to the position.
