The position:
- Dynamic role as a part of the Infrastructure Design and Survey team
- Live and work in the beautiful tropical regional city of Cairns
A dynamic and varied role as a member of the Design and Survey Services team at Cairns Regional Council. You will be a proficient and skilled designer within the multidisciplinary team of civil designers, civil engineers, landscape architects and surveyors.
Reporting to the Senior Design Engineer - Design and Survey Services you will contribute to the day-to-day delivery of project designs for the team.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with good communication and interpersonal skills. Your skills will be proficient in the operation of MS Word and Excel.
To be successful in this role you must have:
- Associate Degree or Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- A Queensland "C" Class driver's licence.
- Demonstrated high level design skills in roads and stormwater infrastructure.
- Demonstrated high level competency with engineering software packages 12D, AutoCAD and AutoTurn.
- Working knowledge of estimating processes, specifications and software applied to civil construction infrastructure.
- High level working knowledge of industry codes and guideline documents (e.g. Queensland Urban Drainage Manual, Australian Rainfall and Runoff, Queensland Streets, Austroads, Main Roads technical publications and Australian Standards).
- Working knowledge of PC application software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets) in a network environment.
- Good communication and negotiation skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively share information with all levels of staff and a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to show initiative and work to deadlines in a multi‑project environment with limited supervision.
