Salary Range: $58,536.24 - $70,129.06 pro-rata per annum
Location: 119 - 145 Spence Street, Cairns

Cairns Regional Council is seeking to appoint a Human Resources Officer to provide support services and advice regarding generalist human resources across the unit, including attraction and recruitment and the day to day management of HR Information Systems.  

Reporting to the Human Resources Advisor the ideal candidate will have the ability to support and coach line managers and supervisors in contemporary recruitment practices and industrial issues, and build on-going relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

To be successful in this role you will possess:  

  • Experience in an equivalent human resources position operating within a diverse range of businesses.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of generalist human resources and industrial/employee relations practices and processes.
  • Broad knowledge of, and commitment to, Equal Employment Opportunity and related anti‑discrimination legislation, understanding of the principles underpinning the integration and application of provisions in industrial awards, certified agreements and employment legislation.
  • Demonstrated skill in preparing correspondence, report writing, research and data analysis, using and applying analytical skills and questioning, with a high focus on attention to detail and accuracy.
  • High level of ethics, confidentiality, and ability to exercise discretion in a professional manner.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to build relationships with a range of internal and external customers.
  • A high level of computer skills encompassing word processing, database, spread sheeting and reporting, and use of appropriate corporate applications.
  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, IR or a related discipline, as well as proven experience in a similar role will be highly regarded.
